In a hard-fought series that saw the road team win five out of six, the Bar Harbor Basselopes defeated the Acadia Black Flies four games to two.
Game 1 - BHB 2 - ACA 1 Zack Greinke went the distance, outdueling Clayton Kershaw to give the Basselopes the win on the road in the series opener. Game 2 - BHB 3 - ACA 1
Adam Jones' two-run homer provided all the offense Barry Zito needed. Rafael Soriano came on for the save to give Bar Harbor a 2 games to 1 lead.
Game 3 - ACA 6 - BHB 2
Carlos Ruiz led off the game with a home run and the Black Flies added round-trippers by Asdrubal Cabrera and Kevin Frandsen, as the Acadia offense woke up on the road. Starter Iwakuma left with an injury in the first but Kyle Kendrick and four relievers held the line. Darren Oliver struck out Ichiro with the bases full in the ninth to seal the deal.
Game 4 - BHB 1 - ACA 0 12 innings
A classic pitchers duel between Greinke and Kershaw went to inning number twelve before a run was scored. Pinch hitter Humberto Quintero reached on an error and was doubled to third by Alcides Escobar. An intentional walk loaded the bases and Yadier Molina's ground ball brought home the only score of the night. Bar Harbor is now 12-2 in extra inning games.
Game 5 - ACA 6 - BHB 2
Kevin Frandesen gave the Black Flies a 3-2 lead in the fifth with an RBI double and Carlos Ruiz iced it with a two-run homer in the sixth. Ryan Vogelsong went the distance, striking out eight to earn the win, sending the series back to Acadia with the Basselopes leading 3-2.
Game 6 - BHB 6 - ACA 3
Bar Harbor scored three in the first off Jason Hammel and never looked back. Alcides Escobar hit a three-run homer in the sixth to make it 6-0 but the Black Flies rallied one last time in front of their home crowd. David Dejesus' seventh inning blast made it 6-3 but the Basselopes bullpen shut out the lights. Kyle Waldrop turned in a 1-2-3 eighth and Jose Mijares did the same in the ninth, sending Bar Harbor on to the National League Championship Series.
A fun series, well-played by Marty but Bar Harbor got all the breaks.
